I love lattes but my husband prefers straight coffee. So for years my daily latte intake was fulfilled by stopping at the local party store. However, a year ago when we both got our hours cut back from work the need to cut expenses meant no more spending five dollars a day for my daily lattes. I really missed them though and so we decided to purchase an espresso machine so I could make my own lattes at home. I just wanted something that would make a cup or two at a time, as I would be the only one using the machine.
I must say once we got to actually shopping for an espresso machine I was absolutely shocked at the prices. I did a lot of Internet research and read a lot of reviews but have to admit I settled on the Delongi because of the price. At around 100 dollars, that seemed a bit expensive to me, so I knew I never could bring myself to pay $500.00 or more for a really good machine. I haven't been sorry.
Not only has the Delongi paid for itself in what I saved not buying lattes at our local party store, but it makes a really nice latte and a wonderful chai latte. I couldn't be more pleased. Now I can have a latte anytime I want since this machine is pretty simple to use.
I also like the fact that it is so easy to clean and looks super modern and a bit elegant sitting on my counter. While some of those higher priced machines out there probably do a better job this little machine does a good enough job to satisfy my latte cravings and I don't have to feel guilty about the price which is an added plus in my book.Editor's note
DeLonghi EC155 is one of the very few pump espresso machines that you can get for under $100. It has a stainless steel boiler and good and relatively quiet pump.
The machine comes with two portafilters - one for using the ESE espresso pods and the second one for using ground coffee. Now this is a pressurized portafilter which means that you can pull good quality shots with nice crema relatively easily. This is great for folks who do not want to spend too much time exploring how to make the "perfect shot" of espresso. It is not very fussy about the way the coffee is ground and in general makes life easy for a beginner.
All in all, DeLonghi EC155 is a very good machine for its price. Most common complaints are the awkward position of the steam wand and low clearance between the spout and the drip tray. To know exactly what to expect from it, do read the through the user reviews.
