Electric Moka Express and Other Electric Moka Pots
When you hear about Moka pots you usually think about Moka Express or another stovetop espresso machine. Not many people would think about an electric Moka pot. Well, that's a mistake. Using an electric Moka pot is very convenient and yet you get that wonderfully rich taste that the stovetop espresso machines are capable of producing. The electric Moka pots are easy to use and clean and they don't take up much space. If you like stovetop espresso then this may be a good choice for your office coffee maker. The most popular models are Bialetti, Delonghi and La Pavoni.
Bialetti Electric Moka Easy
This is the electric version of the legendary Bialetti Moka Express. It's made of aluminum which is the traditional material for Moka pots.
It makes 6 espresso size cups of coffee.
Moka Easy is very simple to use: fill the bottom part with water, put ground coffee into the filter, screw the top on it, put it onto the electrical base and turn the switch on. That's it. The unit will automatically switch itself off when your coffee is done.
Delonghi Esclusivo Alicia Electric Moka Espresso Maker
Alicia has a transparent upper section so you can watch the brewing. The bottom part is made of aluminum. One good thing is that there is a filter adapter that allows you to make either 3 or 6 espresso size cups of coffee.
Just like with Bialetti, you use it just like ordinary Moka pot but use the electrical base instead of the stovetop. It has an automatic shut off with keep warm function - so it will keep your coffee warm for half an hour. But I would recommend that you don't use this keep warm feature - the coffee tastes better when you drink it immediately.
La Pavoni Caffe Mattina Electric Espresso Maker
Caffe Mattina has got a rather unique styling, so it can easily become a conversational topic.
It is the only stainless steel electric Moka pot around and so it is a very good choice for people who have
concerns about using aluminum Moka pots. The capacity is 8 espresso size cups.
You use Caffe Mattina just like the previous two models. It will switch itself off when the brewing is finished. The brewed coffee is nice and rich but it does not seem to be as good as the one from the Bialetti or Delonghi.
