Review of the Krups Allegro Espresso Maker

A few years ago when I was in the market for an easy to use yet inexpensive espresso machine that made great tasting brews I figured I'd be facing quite a challenge to find one that met all three of these top criteria. However, it didn't take long to spot the Krups Allegro Espresso Maker (model # FND111) that boasted all of the above, not to mention the two independent brewing systems, and rush home to see just how it worked.

The black color with silver accents went perfectly in my kitchen with both black and stainless steel appliances, and since we're limited on counter room, the space-saving design ended up being the perfect fit. The dimensions of the Krups Allegro espresso maker are 11.9 by 11.9 by 9.8 inches and it weighs in at six pounds.

The Krups Allegro uses a four bar steam system for making cappuccino, espresso, and lattes and I'm happy to report that the steam nozzle does its job by quickly frothing the milk to my exact liking thanks to the dial control. I am not the only one in the house who enjoys these hot beverages, and this model features a large capacity carafe with an easy to hold handle and is able to make up to four cups at a time of espresso.

The drip tray is simple to clean, and be sure to stick to the manufacturer's recommended de-scaling schedule for the best results. The frother's nozzle will also need to be kept clean and free from clogs to help it perform as it should cup after cup, and even more importantly keep the frother from breaking.

I have gotten into the habit of unscrewing the end of the nozzle and soaking it in warm water before rinsing clean after every few cups, perhaps the only downside to owning this espresso maker by Krups.

Krups Allegro Espresso MakerEditor's note

The Krups Allegro espresso maker has all the pros and cons of a typical steam espresso machine. On the positive side, it is inexpensive and easy to use and maintain. The main negative point is the quality of the espresso which is not as good as what you would get from a pump espresso machine.

Having said that, it you are not an espresso connoisseur, then this type of espresso maker may be just right for making your latte or cappuccino.
